As a component of Windows Server 2003, WSS presents no additional licensing costs. WSS is typically used in smaller or less complex business environments.

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS)

MOSS includes all of the functionality of WSS but also a number of enhanced and additional features that are targeted towards larger, enterprise environments:

Enterprise Search – the ability to create searches based on document, email and web content
Enterprise Content Management – support for complex document management rules and workflows. This feature can be used as a cornerstone for regulatory compliance
Business Intelligence Features – MOSS allows the easy integration with existing line of business systems to give users easy access to key organisational data
