Bazian is a London based, leading global provider of evidence-based healthcare solutions. Rapid organisational growth resulted in Bazian asking Octavia to advise on, plan and implement an upgrade to their existing IT systems.
Bazian's existing infrastructure was based around a Linux server with standard Windows desktop client PC's. Whilst this system had served their purposes up to this point, it was quickly apparent that it would not support the future demands of a rapidly growing business. We recommended a migration to Microsoft Small Business Server 2003, enabling Bazian to have greater control over their file and e-mail security.
In addition to the server upgrade and migration a secure internet connection was established by the installation of a Cisco PIX Firewall, this enables Bazian users to securely connect to the Bazian network from any global location by using VPN technology.
Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 was installed onto new Dell server hardware which included an internal tape backup device. User accounts were configured in Active Directory and users allocated to appropriate user groups for both security and distribution purposes.
Shared network drives for general company data were created along with secure network drives for sensitive data and a secure storage area for each user (a home folder).
System policies were configured on the Server to control Windows XP Firewall behaviour along with security and environment settings such as password policies and user profiles.
Data was migrated from the Linux server to the new SBS server using a staged process to safeguard against data loss. User e-mails were backed up and imported into Exchange mailboxes and the Exchange 2003 server was initially configured to retrieve emails from their internet POP3 Server.
Client PCs were connected to the new network/domain and Outlook installations were upgraded to version 2003 as required.
Sophos Antivirus is installed and managed from the new server which protects the server, clients and e-mail gateway against virus threats and e-mail spam attacks.
Veritas Backup Exec is utilised to manage and control the system data backups down to individual mailbox item level. The system is configured to automatically alert administrators about any backup related issues, along with Small Business Server monitoring which is configured to regularly report system events.
Following successful completion of the migration project, Bazian signed up to Octavia's Flexisupport service for their on going IT-support and maintenance needs.
