Prospectus are a specialist recruitment agency working exclusively with charities, universities, health agencies, arts bodies, membership organisations and government departments. They provide integrated solutions for clients and recruit high calibre, experienced staff for Executive, Permanent and Temporary roles. They also specialise in Part-Time appointments and have a Recruitment Advertising and Response Handling team.
Prospectus acquired a branding and marketing agency &Source&, resulting in a requirement to expand the IT infrastructure to cover the two locations. Source had a basic peer-to-peer network consisting of Apple MAC's and Windows PC's, whilst the Prospect-Us network was a Domain based network utilising corporate solutions including Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft SQL Servers.
The Prospectus office had approximately 40 Windows Workstations and 3 Windows Servers, the Source office consisted of 4 Windows Workstations and approximately 10 Apple MAC Workstations/Laptops, one of which was acting as a File Server.
The project was to implement a Windows Network at the Source Office, connect this to the Prospectus Office using a permanent VPN, and install a Windows 2000 Server to provide Domain Authentication, Exchange 2000 Mail Server and File " Print Services. The new network needed to be MAC compatible, with the new server providing e-mail as well as File " Print Services for MAC's.
To facilitate the implementation of a Windows 2000 Server in the Source office, a new server was installed at the Prospectus office, replacing an existing Exchange 2000 Server and AD Domain Controller. During the installation of the new server, the Active Directory configuration was optimised, data storage and file shares rationalised and configuration of DHCP improved with all network printers using reserved addresses. The server was configured to be MAC compatible due to their introduction onto the network.
The old server was rebuilt as a Windows 2000 Domain Controller with Exchange 2000 Server and installed in the Source office. A CISCO PIX Firewall was installed and a permanent VPN created with the Firebox Firewall in the Prospectus office. New accounts were created for the Source staff to enable access to e-mails and data stored on the network. The existing windows PC's were added to the domain and all user data and locally stored e-mails transferred to the server. The Apple MAC's were configured to use Entourage to access the Exchange server, and all locally stored e-mails were imported into the new corporate mailboxes.
Sophos Anti-Virus was implemented on the network and configured to provide protection for the Server, E-Mail Gateway, Windows Workstations and Apple MAC's. Windows Software Update Services (WSUS) was configured to ensure all of the Windows machines are kept up to date with latest security patches and updates.Octavia's Flexisupport for their on going support and maintenance needs.
