To outsource or to “in-source”?

Monday, May 4th, 2009

The word outsource has become common in the workplace today. It is common in business the business world and almost every company outsources something that they do or need. This is because outsourcing can save some companies a great deal of money, as they no longer need to employ dedicated staff to deal with that area.

It is becoming more and more commonplace not to employ in-house staff to take care of absolutely everything in the company if a high standard of service can be provided elsewhere for less money. Thus the birth of outsourcing.

Thinking outside the box

IT companies have become very powerful. Many businesses prefer to outsource their IT solutions and here is why. You get great quality of service. Outsourcing means that IT companies take over your IT worries and they have an army of fully qualified staff to handle it. This is more quality effective than employing only one IT professional in-house, who can’t be everywhere at once.

A single in-house IT professional is not capable of the vast knowledge available within IT companies. Outside IT companies are more cost effective too. This is because they have many more people at their disposal to sort out your problem than you would be able to hire for the same fee. It also works out more cost effectively to pay IT companies for what you use. This is instead of paying an in-house professional to sit around waiting to be needed.

Outsourcing to IT companies also offers you a wider range of skills and services for your money. This means that you can have your problems sorted in good time and within budget.

The choice of IT consultancy or training

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Information technology is an integral part of any business without which no business can succeed. Technology has simply evolved too far for any business to be viable without making use of all that technology has to offer. That has lead to the birth of the IT Consultancy firms that offer services to all business, big and small to see to all their IT needs to whichever extend the business wants.

Choice of services and products

A professional IT company provides services across the spectrum. What you choose to use will depend on many factors such as the size of your business, your budget, the skills your staff has and time management. A consultancy will work with you and analyse your needs and you will work out whatever options is the best for your business. You could choose to leave every aspect of your IT needs in the hands of the consultancy and pay for those services accordingly. That may include full solutions form software development, networking, hardware support and telephony.

You may want managed IT solutions or make use of their option for outsourced technical staff. The consultancy also offers a great service in IT training courses for businesses that is hugely beneficial for your staff and business. These include end-user training courses, technical and development training courses as well as development of bespoke training programmes for specific businesses.

Importantly, they also offer post-training support and consultancy services for all the courses they offer that can be undertaken at their premises or at a venue more accessible to you. These training courses are cost-effective and time saving for your business as trained and knowledgeable staff makes far less mistakes.

Train Your In-House IT Support Team

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

Productive IT support runs on experience and this takes training.  IT support staff who receive no training, or little training, cannot possible provide a service that encompasses all aspects of your business and therefore cannot provide a service which is in tune with your business requirements.

One aspect where training is key to a company’s success is their customer support staff, often in the form of a Help Desk.  Help Desk staff are required to take calls from customers and provide the help they are seeking.  This entails being able to operate and interrogate the system they are working on.  Logging into the system and being able to navigate around it to find information, quickly and with a great deal of efficiency.  IT support staff are required to deal with a host of different enquiries, one after another, all day long, so the only way you can guarantee consistency in their level of service is to provide each an every one with the same information that enables them to operate the system and provide support to your customers.

No training = no experience

Apart from providing training on common systems use, how and where to find information and how to log calls, training should also include information regarding your company’s policies, especially internet based policies and what your company’s SLA’s, or service level agreements are.

IT Support staff are of course not only those who deal with customers, they are the people who keep the systems running and who upgrade the systems, maintain those systems and are the people who ensure your systems are cooperating with each other through the network as well as being responsible for how both information and systems are provided and presented to the end users.
